SCGIS supports the conservation of global resources through various activities,
such as:

• competitive international scholarship program
• annual conference
• financial awards and waivers to the annual conference
• biannual electronic newsletter
• a LISTSERV for members to discuss projects, seek advice, and provide technical support
• networking and professional development services
• coordination of hardware and software donations to non-profit organizations and establishment of standards for the development of conservation data
