Our Global Scholarship Program is not a typical scholarship program. It is designed to allow conservation GIS practitioners to attend the
ESRI User Conference and
SCGIS Annual Conference that are held in California every summer, and to take specialized 2-week GIS courses organized for the scholarship recipients before these two conferences. The scholarship program covers only some of the costs affiliated with the travel to and attendance at these events; only on rare occasions we are able to provide awards that cover full costs.
The Scholarship Program currently limits its support only to the regions where SCGIS international chapters and informal conservation GIS communities affiliated with SCGIS are growing or emerging, to promote further growth of these chapters and communities.
The Scholarship Program 2010 announcement was distributed to the leaders of such chapters and communities, and these leaders were delegated the responsibility to distribute the announcement locally, and to collect and pre-review the applications in their respective regions: Brazil, Cameroon, Indonesia/South-East Asia, Kenya, Latin America, Nepal, Russia, Philippines, Slovenia, South Africa (as a region), Uganda.
We have now finished accepting applications from the chapters, and are now reviewing the applications. The Scholarship Program award winners will be announced here soon.
If you would like to join the community of conservation GIS activists in your region, and to apply for our Scholarship Program award in the future, please write to us (international@scgis.org), and your inquiry will be forwarded to these communities. Please also visit the International Chapters section of our web site.
